West Palm Beach, Florida-
Bertram Tamarkin, 94, passed away on July 27, 2021 in West Palm Beach, Florida, after a long battle with bladder cancer.
Bertram was known to everyone as Bud or Buddy, fitting nicknames for a man who had many thousands of friends in his long life.
Bud was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 6, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Jack Tamarkin, in the early 1970s, and by his beloved wife Bernita, who died in April 2004.
He was a proud graduate of the Rayen School in Youngstown, and the University of Michigan. In the early 1980’s, Bud went back to school and received a Masters in Gerontology from Youngstown State and Kent State.
For more than 30 years, Buddy played an instrumental role in the growth and success of The Tamarkin Company, United Family Foods and Valu King Supermarkets. He also spent decades volunteering his extra time at the United Way in Youngstown and Palm Beach, and the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation.
Bud Tamarkin’s warmth, kindness, outstanding sense of humor and intelligence will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a true mensch, a man who volunteered countless hours and days to those who are less fortunate. He was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather, and his commitment to making our world a better, fairer place will never be forgotten.
He is survived by sons Jon of Los Angeles, CA and Jeff of New Smyrna Beach, FL and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Joe and Nick Tamarkin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am, Monday, August 2, 2021 in Itts Memorial Chapel, Anshe Emeth Cemetery on Granada Avenue in Youngstown, where the family will receive visitors
from 11-11:25am prior to the service in cemetery chapel.
