Joseph Levy, 79, died July 15, 2020, at Briarfield in Austintown. Mr. Levy was born November 13, 1940, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Philip A. and Bessie Newman Levy.
In 1958 he graduated from The Rayen School and then graduated from YSU in 1964 with a degree in Accounting. He first worked as an accountant. Then he owned The 20th Century Restaurant and finally as a Stock Broker. He was a veteran of the US Air Force Reserves having served six years. Joe enjoyed watching Cleveland professional sports on TV, gardening, and traveling. He once won a blue ribbon at The Canfield Fair for the flowers he grew.
He was a member of Congregation Rodef Sholom, Ohev Tzedek Temple, Z.O.A., and Northside Kiwanis.
Joe was well known for his sense of humor and athleticism. In 1958 he was awarded The JCC Sportsmanship Award for his basketball, softball, and attitude. He continued his interest in sports with his children as a volunteer in The Liberty Township Baseball and Softball Associations. He was one of the first coaches in the Midnight Basketball League.
Joe is survived by four children, eleven grandchildren, two brothers Marvin (Sharon) Levy of Pompano Beach, FL., Morris "Blondie" (Lisa) Levy of Youngstown, his significant other of 26 years Margaret Klein and a sister-in-law Marcia Levy.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother J. Newman Levy.
A private, graveside service will be at 1:00pm, tomorrow in the Rodef Sholom Cemetery.
