Leonard Kirtz, Jr., 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Greenbriar.
Leonard, affectionately known as J.R. to his family and Len to his close friends, was born May 11, 1949 in Youngstown a son of Leonard and Harriette Kirtz.
Len had a passion for living and loved the finer things in life. He especially enjoyed spending time with his friends and watching the news and The Price is Right while sipping tea. Len was the inspiration for his father’s advocacy on behalf of people with developmental disabilities which ultimately led to the creation of the Leonard Kirtz School from which Len graduated in 1970. Len worked for several years at the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities Workshop and The Gateway Industries.
Leonard leaves behind his brother Richard (Deborah) Kirtz, and his nieces and nephews Carrie, Evan, Shana and Sean. They fondly remember all the Sundays spent watching football with their beloved brother and uncle.
Len will also be sadly missed by his roommates, Terri Bragaloni and Frank Parra, as well as all of his TLM Residential and Gateways friends and caregivers.
The Kirtz family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the devoted staff members at TLM Residential and Gateways for all the love shown to Leonard over the many years he thrived while in their care.
Family and close friends may attend a private service in the Rodef Sholom section of Tod Homestead Cemetery on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 1pm.
