Mary Lou (Bonow) Finesilver, 89, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Mary Lou was the daughter of Samuel and Esther (Beerman) Bonow, born on April 11, 1934, in Somerset, PA.
Mary Lou moved to Youngstown in 1955 and met her future husband, Alvin Finesilver, not long after she arrived. Mary Lou and Alvin were married for 50 years before his death in 2007. They have three children, Marshall (Candace) of Hawaii, Diane, and Beth. And the apple of her eye, her granddaughter Katie (Hawaii). Mary Lou loved nothing more than spending time with her beautiful family and friends.
She also treasured her time with the Jewish community and temple. Mary Lou was a member of Anshe Emeth Temple and Temple El Emeth where she was an active participant in the Temple’s sisterhood, being president three times, the last time she held the position she was 83 years old. She was also an active member of Temple El Emeth board of directors up until her death.
Mary Lou held many jobs over the years but her two most recent jobs were working for Tamco in Austintown and The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown as their account manager, a position she held for 22 years until just recently. She also loved writing her quarterly column for the Jewish Journal.
Besides her parents and her husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her sister Raysa Bonow.
Services will be held Friday, December 22nd at the Itts Chapel in the Anshe Emeth Cemetery on Granada Ave. in Youngstown. Calling hours are from 9:45-10:30 A.M. with services beginning at 10:30 A.M. Masks are required.
The family would like to thank the nurses for their excellent care at St. Elizabeth’s in Youngstown, the amazing staff at Heritage Manor Nursing home, as well as Ohio Living Hospice care who made our lives easier with their dedication and care to Mary Lou.
