Norman Simon, 87, died on Friday, June 28 at home. He was born on May 12, 1937, in Johnstown, PA. the son of Morris and Ida Fine Simon. He leaves behind two nephews David and Jeffrey, his niece Sheryl and two great nephew Gabriel and Nathaniel and one great niece Kayla. He also leaves behind his friend of many years, Dennis Thomas, who was with him part of each day in these last few weeks. While Norman's health was failing for some time, his death was sudden and unexpected. He had been in the hospital but wanted to be at home and he was improving as we created our own kind of hospice world there.
Norman was a very proud man. He was also a very generous man who could be remarkably caring and thoughtful. A big part of his identity was his being a veteran. It was during his service in the Army to our country that he developed problems related to the artillery shelling. It took many years, but the Veteran's Association granted him 100% service-connected disability. And VA was wonderful to him and to all of us who cared about him. If you knew Norman, you'd know how unique and how caring he was. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Renee Pincus. He will be missed very much. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, July 2nd in Ohev Tzedek Cemetery with military honors.
Contributions in Norman's memory may be made to Congregation Ohev Beth Sholom.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home.
