Ruth Stein Obituary

Ruth F. Stein, age 98, passed away peacefully at the Shalom Park Nursing Home in Aurora, Colorado on January 11th, 2025.

Ruth was born in Telsia, Lithuania on April 4, 1926, to parents Chaimas and Libe Binas.  The family emigrated to the United States in 1928 through Ellis Island.

Ruth and her family lived in New York City through her childhood.  She met her husband, Curtis J. Fisher in New York, and their marriage was in New York City on June 20th, 1948.

Ruth and Curtis gave birth to four children, Richard born in Philadelphia, PA in 1952, Barbara, born in 1954 and Robert, born in 1957 in Syracuse, NY, and Andrew, born in Youngstown, OH in 1964.  

The family moved to Youngstown in 1958.  They were long time members of Congregation Rodef Sholom, now known as Congregation Ohev Beth Sholom.  

Ruth volunteered at the Butler Museum of Art and enjoyed cultural activities while living in Youngstown.

Her husband, Curtis passed away in January 1978.

Ruth moved to Solon, OH in 1981 and was married briefly to Bob Kaplan.  She later married Harry Stein in 1987, and they lived for many years in Pepper Pike, OH. Her husband, Harry died in November 2003.

Ruth moved to Longmont, CO in 2004 to be near family.  Her daughter, Barbara Bott, died in 2006 from complications of a long-term brain injury.

Ruth is survived by brother, Leonard Binn, of Bethesda, MD, her sons, Richard of Wilmette, IL, Robert of Silverthorne, CO, Andy of Portland, OR. 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  Ruth’s sister, Florence, Miller of Roslyn, NY is no longer living.

Service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, Jan. 16th in Rodef Sholom Cemetery Chapel.

The family requests that financial donations to be made to the organization Judaism Your Way, located in Denver, CO.
