Boardman – Sioux (Susan) Rae Van Vlerah, 80 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1941. Sioux was the daughter of Sam and Helen Harshman and she was one of three children. She grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown State University. Sioux married Max Van Vlerah and they spent every moment together until his death. Sioux is survived by her two children Robert and Toby (and their spouses), and her grandchildren Moriah, Max, Hannah, Kari, and Maxine. She also has nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends that she cared about very much and always was in contact with.
Sioux was a member of Ohev Tzedek Synagogue in Ohio and later became a member of Congregation Kol Shalom in Washington where she moved to be with family.
Due to COVID-19, and family distance, Sioux will be laid to rest in Ohev Tzedek cemetery next to her husband on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. A memorial service will be planned at a later date via Zoom or Youtube so all who wish to participate can virtually.
